Getting young people into the joy of running

Sun 31st May at 8:30am

It was a hi-viz start to the day for four of us at Eltham junior parkrun.
Taking up marshalling and time-keeping roles we saw a whopping 165 children safely around the two-lap 2k course.
There were fast runners, slow runners, walkers and even a child running backwards for the second lap!
If you can spare an hour of your Sunday morning, why not give it a go? You'll be rewarded with smiles and a happy buzz. And if you need an extra reason, there's a great coffee shop nearby for a post task treat!

Peter was once again repping GoodGym Bexley at Avery Hill parkrun, first holding a 'Quiet Please' paddle aloft during the run briefing, then holding the stopwatch as timekeeper, recording those all-important minutes and seconds as everyone crossed the line.
If you fancy giving it a go, our two local parkruns always welcome new volunteers. No experience required, and a guaranteed feel-good factor after having been involved in a wonderful community event.

In glorious sunshine, four of us joined the volunteering team at Eltham junior parkrun this morning.
Johnny and Ivar gave out high fives as the 92 young runners and their parents ran the two lap course.
As timekeeper, Peter made sure everyone got a time as they crossed the finishing line. And Sarah scanned finishing tokens.
This is a lovely way to start a Sunday - time outdoors, making something special in our community - and parkrun doesn't run without volunteers, so why not give it a go?

Two Bexley GoodGymers volunteered at Avery Hill parkrun this morning.
While Peter was on timekeeper duties, I was helping with barcode token scanning and recording runners’ results after they finished.
Despite the hot weather, I did my best to stay focused and helped to keep the finish area organised and running smoothly.
It was great to support the event and encourage runners after a tough run in the heat.

THis morning Peter was in his usual Sunday morning role as timekeeper at Eltham junior parkrun.
And what a great buzz there was, as an all-time high attendance of 188 young runners and walkers (plus their adults) completed the two-lap 2k course. That's a lot of clicks on the timing app as Pete registered every finisher crossed the line!
Helping at junior parkrun is such a lovely task. It's easy to get involved and you'll get parkrun credits as well as GoodGym credits - two for the price of one, but free!
GoodGym Bexley supports two junior parkruns each week - this one at Eltham Park South, and the one at Lesnes Abbey Woods. If you've never given it a go, dive in and sign up to one of the future events - smiles and a feel-good glow are guaranteed 😎.

This morning Kam and Peter joined the hi-viz team of volunteers at Avery Hill parkrun.
Parkrun simply wouldn't happen without its army of volunteers each week, and while anyone can lend a hand, volunteering under the GoodGym banner gives you an extra sense of community spirit and local pride.
What better reason to get up and out on a Saturday morning? Fresh air, friendly faces, and feel-good vibes. It's better than caffeine for kick-starting your weekend, but there is always a nice coffee on offer at the café afterwards!
