50 ways to have your cake and eat it

So one week after Barbara's 50th good deed we all convened for tonights task which was followed by wonderful post run drinks and home made cakes all generously provided by Barbara.

Winding back to the start Paula, Andy ,Gill, Tamsin ,Jay, Belinda , John and of course Barbara set off either walking , jalking or running just over 1 mile to St Botolph's church where we were warmly met by Val , Sue and Peter for a garden tidy up.

Once again the walkers and jalkers comprising of Paula John and Barbara beat the runners to the task wasting no time in getting started . Our task tonight was to clear a large are of overgrown brambles and weeds and stingers. Thankfully Sue and Peter had brought along a wonderful range of tools and gloves to help us with this prickly task.

Gill wasted no time with her 'fine pruning' and was a bit of a daredevil climbing up to secure the elusive trailing ivy ( no holly in sight) Barbara and Andy were on the long shears whilst Paula did some super sweeping with John raking it all in and Jay and Tamsin on frequent wheelbarrow shuttles and tidying.

30 short minutes later we were thanked most profusely and even given a humbling round of applause as we left by Val,Sue and Peter . Its always a delight to work with these lovely people and we look forward to being with you again next week at Heene Cemetery which is one of the group's favourite tasks.

Saints and sprinters

Leaving the church garden as saints we turned into sprinters along the seafront with some lamp post interval training which we haven't done for a while. It was good to put these drills in again especially for those of you wanting to improve your speed and lactic acid thresholds. We picked up Duncan along the way and there really were some super speedy individual efforts by all.

It was great to see the runners doing the first day of the marathon madness 7 in 7 Sussex Trail Event . Its not every day that rhino runs along Worthing seafront ! Massive kudos to you all running up and down Worthing 8 times!

We stopped to admire the progress on our seafront flower bed including the recently added running track that John had made earlier today . With all the watering efforts and recent rain it really is looking prolific. Special thanks to Mr and Mrs R for all their help with the bed.

BB + GG = CC (cup-cakes) 4 all

With threatening skies and drops of rain falling we abandoned the outside celebrations in favour of the upstair balcony at Splashpoint where the bubbly, beer and cider was cracked open and cupcakes laid out. What a selection there was with all flavours and varieties tastes taken care of .

After John's wonderful momento that he had made Barbara last week I added a collage of photo reminders and we all raised a glass to her first epic year with GG . We were also joined by Nick who popped down in support of this special evening ( once he had tracked us down! )

Its a wrap

With us all tucking into the goodies Jay didn't disappoint with 5 empty cake cases carefully folded as a reminder of his love of eating cake!

Special mention to the peanut butter one from me ! My absolute favourite which I don't think helped with my post holiday weigh in this morning!

This Sunday marks the end of the June challenge and you are all invited down for the final run and fun in the sun meeting at Splashpoint starting at 2 pm with the run followed by some games and BYO picnic from around 3 onwards on the green. All family, friends and dates are very welcome ! The more the merrier :)

Enjoy the final 5 days of the challenge and look on the bright side .... June only has 30 days!

Sending lots of GG love
