What a beautiful morning to spend time with friends doing some good! Perhaps, said Jenny, it's natures way of easing us into the winter months now the clocks have gone back ☀️
After a morning where some of the team helped out with Junior Parkrun, getting very soggy socks and having a very quick tea at my flat, we joined forces and gave a welcome to Chloe for her first good deed, and Calvin who came back for more after joining the run on Wednesday! Really great to have you guys join us 😁
We shared our favourite cakes and then played a game of under and over before setting off on our 3.5km run to Mycenae Gardens.
And this was an extra special session because it was GoodGym's power couple Sarah's 350th and Johnny's 450th AND Marta's 800th! That's a lot of goodness they've brought to London - just think how many brambles they've taken out, how much litter they've picked and how many little hands they've high fived in that time! Absolutely amazing.
At Mycenae today we split into teams, one for weeding and the other for lopping branches off trees and dragging the branches down to the much loved dead hedge to keep curious children out of the wildlife protection area. Many hands make light work and before long we were packing up and having a lovely cake provided by the Friends.
All topped off with a lovely local coffee.
Excellent job team! Thanks to Calvin for the pics. On wednesday we're joining with GoodGym Bexley.
Until next time!

What a difference a day makes: after Friday’s rains, Saturday brought sun to South East London and made a 3 Good Gymers very happy. as we had a mission to complete. Today we were back at Mycenae House, a former country house and convent now used for community activities, with a view to finishing what we’d started. For several months we’d been visiting to clear areas of the gardens of brambles, ivy, alkanet and all other sorts of weeds and now we were in the final stretch, the ground being substantially clear with just the last few holdouts remaining to dig out. So work was commenced and after an hour we were done and now we’re looking forward to seeing what the House volunteers have to plant in the cleared space when we’re back in November.

After meeting in Hornfair Park we had a sunny, chatty run to Mycenae House to join the regular Friends group that maintains the garden and woodland for the local community to enjoy.
We split up to help with several tasks: Three grabbed shears and went to 'mow' the wildflower meadow, leaving the cuttings in place to seed the area. A duo did battle with brambles and green alkanet. Two lopped low branches off trees and added them to the dead hedge fencing protecting the wildlife area. We rounded off the morning with coffee and cakes at a nearby cafe. The perfect blend of running, volunteering and great company!
Good job team! On Wednesday we're joining forces with Camden - this will be a great session so join us if you can.
Until next time!

This morning Arthur and made our ways to Mycenae Gardens to join the friends for their monthly gardening session.
Arthur helped out watering the young trees with many fill ups of his tiny but pretty effective watering can! Then we did some weeding to make way for planting in the autumn. A lovely morning spent with lovely people!

Today was our monthly Sunday group run and a lovely morning it was too. Deviating from the usual litter pick on Woolwich Common we instead ran to the Mycenae Gardens to join their monthly volunteer session. After a quick check in about what's been tricky and what we've been grateful for this week, we did the short run across Charlton Park and past the Standard to Mycenae Gardens, a hidden gem for some of us and a treat to explore the expansive grounds.
We busied ourselves weeding and transferring the foliage to a make a foliage fence to mark out the wildlife space for non humans to enjoy! An hour well spent chatting and doing some good in lovely surroundings. Topped off with a trip to Boulangerie Jade for some coffee and cake = perfect.
Have a good rest of your weekend everyone, on Wednesday we're at Trinity Hospital raised beds with Fiona again - be prepared for lots of weeding (bug spray and hayfever tablets recommended!) Sign up here
Until next time!

The sun was out, the sky was blue and two Good Gymers made their way from Charlton Parkrun to Mycenae House in Westcombe park for the second part of our double header of missions. We were met by the amazing Fiona and set to work on two familiar tasks, namely dig out brambles and weed out blue alkanet to stop it from taking over the lovely gardens. The tasks were shared and\ soon a large pile of unwanted plants had been constructed. Our task finished, we took our spoils for disposal and headed off into the sunshine.
