Martin Way Methodist Church

Serving the communities of Morden and Merton Park

Christian CARE is a charity working in the London Borough of Merton. They are a group of 60 volunteers from 16 different churches offering help to anyone whatever their race, colour or religion. Each year over 100 families, whose lives are in crisis, are supported.

Heave ho, it's off to work we go!

A moderate sized group of us managed to do a massive amount of work this evening! The jobs ranged from planting seedlings to removing 2 entire bushes! There was also weeding and creating wigwams to support the tomatoes and beans. Well done one and all!

How does your garden grow?!

A good sized group of us got stuck in at Martin Way Methodist church this evening for our weekly group session.

I’d never seen the garden, so it was a joy to see the oasis out the back of the church.

Abby told us what was what and we divided ourselves into weeding, watering, composting, pruning and moving things! A lot was achieved (including removing a whole bush!) and a lovely evening was had by all.

Potting it mildly

It was a last minute decision to stop by Martin Way Methodist Church this afternoon, and it turned into a full on workout dealing with a huge lot of oregano and other herbs!

The oregano needed serious digging and dividing, alongside chives, mint, and some hazelnut saplings. The real challenge was the potting-up phase; creating an assembly line to pot everything up before we ran out of compost. Sixty minutes soon became ninety, but we left the church team with a lovely collection of new potted plants, a much tidier bed, and plenty of potential for our next visit.

No rest for the weedy

On the first group task of Spring we were blessed with a dry evening and a gardening task. Having cleared the area of litter, the team got stuck in to weeding, pruning and digging out the flower beds round Martin Way Methodist Church. Getting rid of some of the more persistent roots needed real effort and team support, but that is what we are so good at. So by the end of the evening, all the beds were cleared, the anti-weed netting was down and secured, and we could all be satisfied with a job well done.
