Buckets and crates

Wednesday 19th November

Written by Anwen Greenaway

Our winter food bank clean got going last night; a very welcome indoor task given the sudden chill!

Each winter we do a session roughly once a month to give the food bank a thorough clean. It's hard for their usual team of volunteers to take time away from packing food parcels to do a really thorough clean, so GoodGym taking over the task helps them focus on getting food out to people in need.

This month we cleaned fridges, emptied food waste, cleaned the wall behind the food waste crates, swept & mopped in the kitchen. In the main hall we moved the shelving along the wall closet to the car park, swept, mopped, cleaned the shelves.

Banking on some GoodGym magic

Wednesday 5th March

Written by Anwen Greenaway

We usually take the opportunity of the darker winter months to gradually work our way around the food bank giving it a thorough clean. We haven't been able to fit in with the food bank schedule for a couple of months, but with ITV due to film there tomorrow, tonight the diary was cleared for us to do an emergency clean.

We swept, we mopped, we wiped, we dusted. We sorted expired food, we threw out an unmentionable amount of black bananas, we even scraped food off the walls. Within an hour the whole place was looking much more camera ready.

Welcome to GoodGym James!

Crates and ladders

Wednesday 4th December 2024

Written by Anwen Greenaway

We took to the foodbank for our monthly winter cleaning session last night. This time we cleaned fridges & sorted food waste in the kitchen. In the main hall it was the turn of the toiletries, pet food and baby supplies to get moved and the whole area cleaned. As nominated tallest person in attendance, Max even climbed a very tall ladder to clean the huge arched windows.

Well done team - as ever, many hands make light work of this big task!

Good to meet you Laura - welcome to GoodGym!

Clean as a Whistle

Wednesday 6th November 2024

Written by Anwen Greenaway

For a handful of years we have had regular sessions throughout autumn and winter doing a deep clean of the Oxford Mutual Aid food bank in Cowley. The day-to-day operations of food bank leave little time for the kind of thorough clean which involves moving shelving and crates, so we try to lighten the load for their regular volunteers by taking on this task.

We tackle a section of the main hall each month (where toiletries, baby supplies and ambient food are stored), and make sure that the whole kitchen gets a clean every month (which is where the fresh fruit and veg is stored). It's an "all hands on deck" operation, involving moving stock, shifting shelves and crates, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and bleaching.

Session one of AW 2024/5 now complete!

Welcome to GoodGym Sasha and Max!

OMAzing

Wednesday 24th January 2024

Written by Anwen Greenaway

Last night we finished our 'spring' clean of the Oxford Mutual Aid foodbank.

Throughout autumn and winter we deep clean the main hall one section per month, and a do a thorough clean and sort of the kitchen every month. We've clearly got pretty efficient at this now, as we finished the task last night; a month ahead of schedule!

(N)ice work if you can get it

Wednesday 10th January 2024

Written by Anwen Greenaway

Last night we stomped the streets around Florence Park delivering flyers for Oxford Mutual Aid. The OMA food bank are recruiting for more volunteers, particularly people to deliver food parcels, so we went house-to-house with their information leaflets. Hopefully they will have an influx of new helpers as a result.

It was a chilly night so we regrouped at The Jolly Postboys pub at the end to warm up.

Welcome to GoodGym Jonah!

congratulations on reaching the 10 Good Deeds milestone Imogen!
