Gravelling At The Speed Of Light

Wednesday 4th September

Written by Euclides Montes

6 Goodgymmers jumped into action as the Tottenham Community Sports Centre came calling with a massive bag of gravel and a car park that needed some love. Boom!

One Foot (Not) On The Grave

Big up for Ren who joined us for her first ever run and task. She didn't even flinch when Gramps insisted they run to task through a cemetery and she even zombie danced when he also insisted on a cemetery photograph. A natural. Come again <3

Post-Big Half Hanger Issues

Ren, Raj, and Gramps ran the cool 4k to task where they met with Veronika, Ed, Latoya who was still basking in the wonderful post-Big Half glow.

After a bit of confusion when Gramps thought a random punter was our task owner for the night, the rest of the crew understood the assignment and followed the actual task owner to the Centre's car park where they received some clear instructions: please introduce this massive bag of gravel to our car park.

Our crew, led by a Latoya who was definitely feeling pretty post-Big Halfy indeed, understood these clear instructions to mean: FLIP THIS MOTHERFLIPPING BAG OVER. And so it began. It was a sisyphean task of sorts, if instead of rolling a rock up a hill, you have a bunch of rather otherwise intelligent Goodgymmers thinking they could just pick up an 800k bag of gravel and tip it over. But, by Zeus, they tried.

When reality finally caught up with our team, they armed themselves with shovels and fork instead and the task then began in earnest.

Every couple of shovelfuls, Latoya and Ed would try to pick up the bag again while newbie Ren buzzed like a bee wanting nothing to do with the futile bag picking until she was eventually brought over to the dark side. Veronika and Raj took turns at levelling the gravel and shaking their heads laughing.

Eventually, without as much fanfare as we expected, the bag was indeed tipped and we had blasted our way through the task way before 8 - talk about gravelling at the speed of light!

Afterwards, we had time to take some pics in the boxing rink, and Veronika and Gramps ran back to HQ while the rest of the team went off in search of food.

A brilliant night.

Match Ado About Nothing

Wednesday 9th November 2022

Written by Euclides Montes

5 Goodgymmers withstood the elements and ran to the Tottenham Community Sports Centre to lend them a hand with a few fun tasks.

A Game Of Two Halves

In a scene reminiscent of a bad pastiche of a Final Destination film, one by one our Goodgymmers started messaging in their reasons why they wouldn't be able to attend tonight: Covid, fevers, colds, unwillingness to commute from Norway for a cold task in Tottenham High Road, even Gramps managed to go and hurt his knee and had to call off the run element of the evening. Thankfully those who could make it in made the best out of a tough Wednesday and after some stupendous solo running/ walking, we all congregated at the Tottenham Community Sports Centre for a night of diverse tasks.

Group A, composed of Sarah, Latoya, and Julie were entrusted with inventorying the first aid room. Meanwhile, Dave and Gramps completed Group B and were put in charge of hanging up the World Cup bunting around the entrance of the Sports Centre.

Cecil from the Sport Centre blew the whistle and our two teams looked lively from the start.

Group B took an early lead when after battling with an old roll of tape, Dave maneuvered his way into his belongings and literally pulled out a roll of the good stuff out of his own bag. He gingerly limbered up the ladder and before you knew it, the bunting was going up smoothly. 1-0 to the (accidentally) all male team.

Group A wasted no time in catching up with Group B and very quickly equalised the score in a glorious example of tiki-taka inventorying. Methodical and efficient, the (accidentally) all female team went through the first aid room with elegance and ruthlessness. 1-1 at half time.

During the break, Gramps commandeered the Sports Centre's sweepstake and bought all Goodgymmers an entry since the funds are all going to a good cause. Julie, Dave, and Gramps had good cause to celebrate indeed as they drew Argentina, Spain, and Germany respectively, while Sarah suddenly found out that the news earlier in the day that Sadio Mané had withdrawn from the World Cup through injury affected her personally more than she expected as she managed to pick Senegal, and Latoya didn't rate her chances much after she picked out Iran.

Back on the pitch for the second half, it got messy in the midfield as both Group A and Group B finished putting up the bunting on one of the hallways. With deadlock almost a certainty, both teams ended up literally going for the same goal as they were asked to fix the nets on the pitches at the back of the Sports Centre. Although both Julie and Latoya ended up in the back of the net, it was definitely a draw by the time the final whistle came.

There were some funny Arsenal-inspired shenanigans in the way to the changing room, next to a large mural of Ledley King, but otherwise a night that promised a lot of drama ended up being a very pleasant match.

Join us next week for a double tasker/social extravaganza. Traid at 6pm, Westbury Banks Nature Reserve at 7pm, and drinks at the Westbury afterwards.

They think it's all over...

Punch-drunk Centenary

Wednesday 16th October 2019

Written by Euclides Montes

11 befuddled GoodGymmers bravely tried to make sense of a task adventure that really shouldn't have been!

Can We Get A Boom Boom!

Big shout out to our very own Deed Queen Extraordinaire Latoya, who was not only celebrating her 100th Deed but also her birthday. Boom!

The Task That Should Not Be

It's a truth universally acknowledged that when a writer has to resort to fancy and flowery literary allusions, he's probably just trying to hide the fact he's not really got much to say. Aaaaaaaaanyway, we had an interesting task last night, where our 11 GoodGymmers made the best out of a rather half-baked situation and found themselves jobs that included putting up a blind, some litter picking, and just some general maintenance. At the end, we even managed to get a peak at the boxing club where a group was being put through some serious training. Some of us tried to keep up with them for a bit until we were unceremoniously turfed out. It was a weird kind of task but the world-renowned Haringey GoodGym bonhomie got us through it.

We had a nice run up and down the High Street in the wonderfully mild evening and after 100 high fives for Latoya, we headed into the night in search of 100 beverages and more funtimes. Boom!

Join us next week!

Go Fourth And Conker!

Wednesday 24th July 2019

Written by Euclides Montes

657 incredible runners ran a whooping 38021 kilometres to complete a grand total of 3062 good deeds. Not too bad for a little 4-year-old, eh? GoodGym Haringey, take a bow!

Do you remember the first time?

Send some good vibes and cheers in Debbie, Nikki and Flo's direction, as they joined us for their first ever good deed. Woop.

Haringey GG Superstars

Congrats to Nurjehan who completed her 50th good deed last week, and to Sarah who was running her way to her 250th good deed tonight. Rock stars! Also, big cheers to the six wonderful goodgymmers who represented the team at the Chestnuts Parkfest Community Mission over the weekend. Rock stars indeed!

A Hot Spot of Bother

It was hot. It was ever so hot. But that didn't stop our 18 runners from running a couple kms up towards Tottenham Community Sports Centre, where we were met with a tad of confusion! After a couple of hurried calls, trying to locate our task owner, we were underway with some hot gardening action. Our two sub-teams descended upon some unwanted weeds and garden debris with such gusto and élan that about half an hour was enough to leave the grounds of the Sport Centre looking top notch.

On the way back to HQ, we stopped at the wonderful Bruce Castle Park for some party games. I mean, what is a party without party games, right? After some funnel tag and 'fetch' action, we headed back home for some well-earned refreshments.

A rather successful birthday party, I hope you'll agree!

Say goodbye to July!

Come bid this month farewell and join us for our run next week. Location still tbc but as long as you're there, it'll be great ;)

Peace!
