It felt like we were in an episode of Garden SOS or Groundforce (or one of those similar garden makeover shows) last night as GoodGym Nottingham teamed up with the 1st Porchester Scout group to work at their scout hut.
Alongside parents and children from the group, GoodGymers Chris, Khiltee, ~Nat~, Rachel and first-timer Mike joined in with digging, chopping and pulling up a whole bunch of weeds and rubble from the outdoor area surrounding the building. The plan is to clear the area so that it can be evened out and made more welcoming and usable again, including installing some steps for better access.
This was a really enjoyable evening and we hope to return to help out some more in the coming weeks.
Welcome to Mike who joined us for his first GoodGym task, and to ~Nat~ for doing the double with the previous night’s task too – it’s not a competition but this task was probably her favourite as she got to use a leaf blower!
Next week we will be back at Sherwood Community Centre – sign up here.

Chris Staddon earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Chris completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Chris was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Ever had one of those tasks? It was a return to the Sherwood Community Centre for five Nottingham Goodgymers. Louise from the centre showed us to a different part of the site and, wow, definitely overgrown! Apparently, there used to be a path leading to a gate. The big question was, where was the gate! A lady called Carol waved a broom in the air to give us clue and so, armed with loppers, cutters and skip bags Chris (attending his first task - welcome aboard!), Peter, Nigel and Natalie set to work whilst Matt went round to the gate to set to from there. Eventually in Channel Tunnel style we met in the middle and there is now a path! Plenty more still to do to clear what is potentially a fantastic community space but if anyone can......
