Nick of the Trade

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Massive shout-out and big props to Nick who joined the 100 club tonight. That's a lot of time doing stuff to help out community projects that need a hand. Nick has been a GG Bromley member as long as I have and I'm so pleased he's in the team. Nick gets a fresh ๐Ÿ’ฏ tee with wings. ๐Ÿฆ… Woooop!

Right, let's see how many Nick puns we can squeeze into a run report! Sorry in advance...

All in the nick of time...

Tonight we were helping out Bromley Borough Food Bank. They have a unit in the Glades for people to donate. It was looking a little shabby so our job was to add a lick of paint to freshen it up.

Nicksand

We divided up the initial tasks of sanding, taping and laying down bin bags to protect the floor in preparation for the paint.

Another nick in the wall

There were plenty of little sticky bits on the wall and some paint coming off in places but it was all looking much cleaner before...

Nick 'n' mix

Paint mixing time! We were each equipped with brushes and rollers and got to work high and low.

Another Nick of paint

We might need to go back to add another layer but it definitely looked way better when we left.

Nice work team!

Bramble Jam

Croydon Report written by Ingrid Buchanan

Miss M was frustrated that her garden, which she used to be very proud of, had become overgrown as sheโ€™s no longer able to maintain it. Ian and Ingrid volunteered to help with the tidy up following a task to move furniture for her.

The first challenge was to gain access as the side alleyway was virtually impassable due to brambles. Ian led the way and managed to make a path through so we could squeeze through.

Once in the garden the brambles, weeds and overgrown plants were soon cut back and bagged up. Some trellis which had fallen down was also removed.

On leaving, Miss M was pleased that her garden was tidier, the patio clear of weeds and the alleyway passable.

The green chair

Croydon Report written by Ian Moore

Nice simple move of a green chair from upstairs to downstairs so Mrs M can have visitors once more. Lots of cables to be moved out of the way in the end zone, a few pictures to come off the wall on the stairs so we didnโ€™t hit them, but all in all a pretty straightforward mission

Tidying up back garden for Miss M (WK2) (flexi mission)

Miss M will be delighted. On each home visit she has mentioned how sad she feels looking at her garden. Miss M has her bed in the lounge with the garden view. Tidying it up would significantly improve her wellbeing.

Moving armchair from 1st floor to the lounge for Miss M(Wk1) (flexi mission)

Miss M would like to be able to sit in the armchair when visitors come. She's an identical chair in the lounge and wants to place 2nd for a social space and watching telly. This will also allow for her to have breaks away from her bed.

Tiny tidy

Lewisham Report written by Ian Moore

The goal was to get the ironing board accessible, but like most store cupboards itโ€™s a game of Tetris or Jenga to get to things and then find new ways of putting it all back! Mission accomplished - so thatโ€™s GoodGym 1, dodgy cupboards nil!

A Thorny Issue...

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

For this week's issue of GoodGym... Brambles.

We assembled at the Bridge House, welcomed Henrietta to the crew and named ourselves and our favourite tube or train lines.

Then we set off to Albion Millenium Green, where we met Jorella from the friends group who had a prickly task for us.

Ramble in the bramble.

Lots of the lovely bluebells were getting shrouded by overgrown bramble bushes, so our job was to cut them back in a few different areas. Armed with secateurs, shears, saws and even a scythe(!) we got to work trimming and swiping until the areas looked much tidier.

Nice job & jog everyone ๐Ÿ‘Œ
