Barnet Report written by Paul Salman
A few GoodGym members came together to help a community Garden in Hampstead Garden suburb. Most of us gathered at the phoenix cinema for a chat and a warmup. A quick film club review during the warmup resulted in an eclectic mix of recommended films ranging from Bloodsimple to finding Nemo. ( please list your favourite films in the comments ) We then headed off through the back streets of East Finchley downhill to join mutton Brook and Littleton playing Fields. En route we stopped to do some squat kicks and some presses in the luscious grass. At Northway Gardens we met up with Kirsten, Cloud and Brian our Host. We set to work - this included scrubbing down the benches and deadheading the daffodils. This apparently improves the bloom next year. ( gardening TIP!) We then did a gentle breathing exercise with the injured Cloud ( wishing you a speedy recovery) before starting our run back to the Phoenix. We warmed down and some of us went for some refreshments in the cinema CAFE. ( now with a discount for a Good Gym members!) Please give a shout out to Kirsten on her 50th good deed.
thanks for coming, running, and doing good!

Mine was Bloodsimple by the Cohen Brothers. It’s a story about how people misunderstand each other.. in a very dramatic way.

This evening I was joined outside Papagayo cafe by Sam, who was on tour from GG Southwark, Khush, returning for his second Brent GG run and Samina and Helen, committed Brent GG runners. After, a quick warm-up we set off for our run to the Granville Centre.
We were greeted by Lesley, who shared information about the work undertaken at the centre to support the local community, including news of the new city farm! We were also joined by GG's Sam, Roberto, Amy and Emily.
We quickly set to work, cleaning fridges, scrubbing cookers, sorting cupboards and tidying shelves. Soon, the kitchen was squeaky clean and super tidy.
The evening ended with a run back to Papagayo and a well deserved beverage.
Super work, team!

We met outside of Papagayo cafe for a short intro and warm-up. A big welcome to Tom, who joined for his first GG run and to Khush who joined the Brent group for the first time.
We set off in two groups for the run to the task. Upon arrival at the task, we split into two teams. Team A set to work first, sanding down the Wendy house. Meanwhile, Team B participated in a HITT session, including knee to elbow skips, sumo squats, ice skatters, star jumps and superman stretches.
After 15 minutes, we swapped jobs. Team B varnished the Wendy house, while Team A went back to school for a game of 'What's the time Mr Wolf?'
Finally, we ran back to base for drinks and chips!

Khush has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Khush is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Khush earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Khush completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Khush was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Goodgym Barnet came together to help the Phoenix cinema save money removing graffiti from the building . It was touch and go with rain forecast right through the day but in the end the rain held off and the sun shone. We met with Owen, the duty manager, who provided all the materials for our work in removing the graffiti. Phoenix cinema is the oldest purpose-built cinema in the UK and it was a pleasure to help them in these difficult times. We finished in good time and were able to do a little fitness session and warm down. It was great to see some new joiners give them a cheer! Afterwards some of us enjoyed a drink on the balcony overlooking the cinema. It really is a special and historical building well worth visiting to see and enjoy one of its films. Thank you for doing some good, helping repair a historical building and important charity. We will be back to help again.
