Woking Report written by Wayne
This evening Wayne, Adam, Anne, Martin, Susan, Rebecca, and Alys met at Woking leisure centre, James was running late so he went straight to the Woking food bank.
Adam thought it would be a good idea to clock up some extra Kilometres for the GG January challenge by taking us the long way round to the food bank, luckily it was not as cold as it has been recently.🥶
Once we got there we were greeted by James and Alison who runs the food bank. We got stuck in straight away. Rebecca and Alys armed with hoovers started at one end of the food bank while James and Martin with flashy brooms started at the other end.
Wayne and Anne were given a task on the 1st floor were we had to empty crates that were full of books to different boxes, we came across some interesting books. Once completed we took the carter back down stairs to give to Alison.
By the time we got down the mopping had started James and Susan were busy getting the floor looking very shiny. Within 40 mins the place was looking great.
Anne mentioned that there was a new community kitchen that had just opened in the town so thought it would be a good idea to run there and introduce Good gym and offer our services. It was a short run when we got there we met a lovely gentleman by the name of Norman who told us all about the kitchen and how they prepped meals and distributed within the community. He also informed us that at the end of the month he was moving to different premises and would get in touch if assistance was required.
Norman then went back in and came out with a bag of tasty croissant for all of us which was much appreciated 🥐 Once digested we ran back to Woking Park there we decided to do a few laps of the park with James attempting to break his 1KM record, he was gone in a flash…..⚡️
It was a great evening and a big well done to everyone. 👏🏻
This Sunday Rich And Victoria from GG are the run directors at Junior Park Run, I know volunteers are still required.
Next Wednesday we are at the RSPCA..
Have a great week everyone….

GG Woking spent the evening picking up litter - mostly face masks!
First group run of 2022
There was an unexpected changed of plan last minute due to the food bank having a Power Failure. So instead we headed out with litter pickers at the ready and spent the evening litter picking around Woking. The weather was a little challenging with a chill in the air and with fingers going numb.
It was incredible the amount of face masks we found just on the floor - a big negative to the Covid pandemic! It was getting more exciting as we were going round and finding more and more litter goodies! Who knew an empty can and bottle could bring so much excitement.
It was lovely to see everyone back after the Christmas Holidays, with Anne recovering from Covid and Martin back after over a year out of GoodGym.
This weekend
Saturday - Hill training at 8am - Carpark is on the Maultway (B3015) Go past Marstan pl on your left - the carpark is the right just after.
Sunday - Volunteer for Woking Junior Park Run
Next week
I am waiting to hear back from the Food Bank to see if we can help out next week instead. If not we will be at Brookwood Farm.
Wednesday 19th May 2021
Martin Ashley earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Martin completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Martin was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Last night we headed off to Brookwood Station to continue with the garden project that we started a few weeks ago. Myself, Holly and Becky got there first and started to pull out all the weeds in the bedding which were about 2 foot long 🌿 Anne, James, Susan, and Martin soon joined us they we all got stuck in removing the weeds and all the roots James especially started to dig up all sorts of things from iron poles, to slate . Conversation soon led to see how had received their jabs, the majority of us have and many of us will be getting them soon 💉.
Before:
Once we had removed all the weeds Holly started to strategically place all the lovely plants she had brought. 🌷🌸 The bedding really started to take shape. The sun was starting to set and the smell from local fish and chips shop got us all thinking about dinner, we downed tools cleared up and headed home.
After:
Next week we will be back at the station to finish off.
