Woking Junior Park Run

Congratulations to Kirsty on completing her 100th GoodGym task! 🎉

Despite facing running setbacks over the last 12 months, her commitment and dedication have brought her back to both running and volunteering. Your official milestone T-shirt with wings is flying its way to you, Kirsty—just try not to actually airborne-launch during your next sprint! 🦅❤️

Kirsty met Wayne at the leisure centre for a gentle 4k run, finishing at the bandstand before volunteering duties began.🏃🏼‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Volunteer Attendance & Catch-Ups It was an excellent turnout of GoodGym members this morning, providing a great opportunity to catch up:

Rich: Regular volunteer present at the event.

Adam: Arrived shortly after the pre-run

Olalekan: Returned to volunteer after some time away.

Alys: Emerged from the vortex of work and married life. Verdict: Still alive, still awesome.

Anne: Arrived a few minutes later, wearing designer sunglasses.

The junior parkrun saw fantastic participation and strong performances across the board:

Total Runners: 179 participants took part this morning.

Fastest Time: An impressive 07:47.

*Personal Bests: *42 runners achieved a new PB.

Annual Martian Race 👽

It was that time of the year again The Annual Martian Race Around Horsell Common ☀️, and once again it was a hot one 🏃🏼‍♂️

This year i was once again carrying out marshal duties and was on spot M22 for the kids 2k run and then on spot M25 for the main race. I arrived early at Mclaren Park to collect my high Viz as as well a team meeting from the Woking Lions Team who hold this event every year to raise funds for local charities 😄.

Once i had all my info i headed off the main event village grabbed myself a cuppa . I had a little time before the kids race began at 08:45 so using what3words went to look at my spot for the kids race. It was a great spot on top of the hill. I then headed off to find my spot for the main race which was deep in the woods 🪵. I got there and still had time to get back to the village.

As i got the village i see Katie & Phil with their little girls. One of the girls was doing the 2k run and was very excited 😄 while Phil was tackling the 10k and was not to excited 🤣.

While chatting we see Anne approaching us. Anne had just got back from France 🇫🇷 where she has been training for this event. It was great seeing Anne and she was rearing to go 🏃🏼‍♂️.

It was time for the kids race to begin so i headed off to my spot while all the young runners headed to the start line for a warm up. The sun was shining and there was a great atmosphere people from all backgrounds laughing and enjoying each others company.

While at my spot i see the young runners heading towards me, some familiar faces from Junior Park Run 😆. I then see Katie with her little one and even got a high 5 ✋🏼.

Once the last runner had gone past i headed off to my next position in the common. It was a great spot in the shade. Got chatting to so many people who were just walking their dogs and asking about the event.

The first 21k runners came by me, they were going at some pace. The first familiar Goodgym face i saw coming towards me was Anne who was doing the 5k she flew past me waving 🐝.

Not far behind was GG's golden couple Nadia & Andy ❤️ manged to get some great photos of both them as they ran past 🥰

Next up was Alys who i nearly missed as i was distracted by the biggest squirrel 🐿 i have ever seen 😱, but managed to get a wave and some photo's.

And finally i see Phil in the distance looking elegant and graceful like he always does while running 🤣

As well as many other familiar faces within the community which Goodgym has helped over the years.

Once again it was a great morning and well done everyone 😄

Annual Community Fridge Clean

It's that time of the year when the Woking GG team put on their gloves grab their buckets and start the annual community fridge clean 🫧🧽

Despite the weather Wayne, Nadia, Alys, & Julie all arrived on time wnd where met by Jules with all the supplies that were needed 😊

Wayne started to clean the community fridge A Frame sign which was in a right state.

Nadia & Julie started to remove the filing cabinet out of the shed and go through and sort out its contents.

Alys was tasked with giving the cabinet a good wipe down wit Quinn also helping 🐶 It was great seeing Alys who has just returned from a long trip to Japan 🏯 and hearing all about it.

Once these tasks were completed and as the heavens opened ⛈️ we all moved into the shed to move the big fridge and freezer and get behind then to give it a good deep clean, Sweeping up bread crumbs from all the loafs that are normally stored on the shelfs 🥖. At the same time Julie & Nadia giving them a good wipe down.

Wayne then carried out an inspection of the cables making sure they were in good condition

Once all the Crumbs and floor had been cleaned it was time for Nadia &Alys to mop the floor🫧🧼

The place smelt and looked great by the time we had finished.

Due to the weather we could paint and stain the shed so will be back another day to carry out this task 😊
