A ribbiting evening spent at The Fields Child and Family Centre, where we welcomed Yasmiena and Peter to their first GoodGym session 👋
I met Peter at Parkside Pools and we took a lovely sunny jog over to Abbey where we met Sunethra and Yasmiena.
All was quiet on site, but armed with gardening tools, gloves and determination, we got started on the overgrown beds. They were full of dead shrubbery and thorny bramble, some of which had grown up under the cladding on the building!
After a little while, Yasmiena spotted a frog, who was very unhoppy about being disturbed. 🐸 We attempted a careful relocation, but it was sure it wanted to find its own way to a new home. Safely tucked away, we continued.
We weeded, cleared, pruned, and turned the soil to transform it in just 50 minutes 💪
What a fantastic first daylight evening session of the season, with dappled sun, interesting conversation and satisfying progress made. We collected all the waste for disposal and admired our work before going our separate ways into the sunset.
Until next time!

For this morning's task 3 goodgymers put on our gardening gloves to help Abbey People at the community centre garden.
The aim was to dig a large wildflower bed which would be fed by a rainwater planter.
It was lovely to welcome Alice for her first goodgym good deed and to see Sunethra back for her second good deed.
We dug up a lot of soil, from which grass then had to be removed. This was used to add to the raised beds. It was great to see how good the soil was, judging by the abundance of earthworms we encountered. Wildflower seeds were then sown which will provide some great colour and wildlife habitat in the future.
The whole experience was very enjoyable, especially as it was so sunny

Sunethra Sathyanarayanan earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Sunethra completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sunethra was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Two GoodGymers spent a lovely morning helping Abbey People with their Seeds of Hope project.
This was Sunethra's first mission with GoodGym and the sun came out to welcome her.
We sowed lots of wildflower seeds to bring some more colour to this area. We also reduced the weeds along the earth banks we had built up on a previous mission. This was to give the wildflowers more of a chance to grow.
The task was very uplifting as we felt able to make a difference.
