SYCT's mission is to support children and young people to reach their full potential by providing regular stimulating, challenging, exciting and rewarding activities and opportunities.
Most of their funding goes directly into the delivery of services and a skeleton staff team look after finance, fundraising and asset management. This means they don’t get the time needed to deal with things like repairs, maintenance, deep cleaning and the like.
85 GoodGymers have supported Streatham Youth & Community Trust with 8 tasks.

Saturday morning's task was to help Streatham Vale Youth Centre get a facelift, by painting the main room a lovely green.
Three Goodgymmers, 2 young service users and Amy (our main contact and member of staff at the centre) made a great start with the job. We managed to move furniture to the centre of the room and paint the first coat on a large section of wall with lots of intricate painting around wall plugs and pipes.
We look forward to visiting soon to see the end product!

Arriving at Papa's last night was a portent of the months to come, dark grey skies and the threat of stormy rain for our Group Run and outdoor task!
But that's not how we see things at Lambeth GoodGym "It's not a grey day it's a Grey-t day!" said Effie as we chatted pre run, which was all the motivation we needed to get ready and hit the pavement for the short run down to Larkhall Park.
And so it was that a 'compact' group of seven runners set off to meet Tanika and one member Aimee would join us there. It was a also with an air of celebration that we took off with both Aimee and Maya having completed their Task Force training and have now joined the Lambeth GG Task Force (otherwise known as the League of Superheroes!)
Once we arrived and found the One o Clock club, Tanika was there to greet us with 3 tasks in mind: 1) Shift all the toys and equipment from one storage room to another 2) Weeding around the corners of the playground outside 3) Turning soil in the sunk planter in the playground
We began with Lindy and Shauna heading straight outside to start weeding and the rest of the group made a working chain (see pics) to move all the wonderful toys and equipment - Sticklebricks, who remembers those??! No? Just me then. Tanika did mention some of the toys being VERY old..... ;0(
The task took on a sinister aspect as we were moving toys with one unseen toy chiming in every few minutes with the message "Keep Going...." in a creepy voice. Tilly and Charlotte were looking at each other to check that they also had heard it and it wasn't in their mind and the AA helpfully pointed out that this was a classic scene from many a horror movie. Luckily nothing untoward happened and all 8 GGers were present and correct at the end of the task, but was that in fact just a toy that was speaking or....???
With everything shifted and now Aimee with us (great sleuthing to find us btw) we all headed out just as a bit of rain was coming down and a chilly wind kicking up, but fortunately it didn't last and we could make a big dent in the weeding and some leaf clearance as well.
With the darkness falling and time up we had gathered several large bags of green waste and turned most of the soil with only a small corner remaining and Tanika was very happy with what we had achieved in our time so we were heading off back to base for some and straight home for others.
Thanks everyone, another really fun Tuesday run and remember "Keep Going"....

It was a cooler evening but still sunny and lovely. Eng-er-land were not playing football and so it was the perfect time for a run. We had two groups - one was going on a mega long run to help the Streatham Youth and Community Trust. Tom B led them off on a solid 7km each way jaunt up the hill and along the high road. Turn right at the Common and KEEP GOING. Phew!
On arrival the group protected the deck, got rid of some cob-webs , brushed the surroundings and even polished the glass. They finished this in 20 short minutes before heading back to Brixton again.
Katie led the rest of the team to Agnes Riley Gardens. Here we got chopping down some more trees, took up some weeds, cleared a path from sharp spiky bushes and generally did a lot of tidying. They were delighted and so were we. After holding a nice tree pose in the park on each leg, we ran back to base.
Great work Lambeth!

'Twas the night before Valentine's and also Pancake Day. With such reason to celebrate it was amazing that anyone turned up at all. But turn up they did! We welcomed new Portsmouth trainer Katie and split into two groups.
Group 1 headed off on a mega long run to help Streatham Youth and Community Trust. Their youth centre needed a good old spring clean and so 17 sweaty individuals set about it with aplomb. There was light bulb changing, window cleaning and throwing away of pictures drawn by young people - along with their dreams. At an 11km round trip, they all earned their Love Running badge on Strava in one fell swoop!
Group 2 stuck a little closer to home, heading 2.5km down to Holland town estate to cut back some spiky roses and weed some stubborn weeds. Once back at Papa's, we did a bit more sorting of the broken toys from the good ones and then chopped back some twigs sprouting from a big tree. Portsmouth Katie led a nice fitness session and then we all did some stretches and retreated to the warmth of home and pancakes.
Top running Lambeth!

Two tasks, many kilometres, much cakes and multiple pints
Tonight we celebrated an amazing 200 good deeds from Marie and gave a black T-shirt to Ruth. Huge congrats to both runners, who are fantastic members of the GoodGym community!
Group 1 was led by Tom Benson - they zipped off into the night on a 4.5km uphill stretch to Streatham, where we once again helped to clear out the attic for the Streatham Youth and Community Trust.
Group 2 stuck behind at Papa's for an extended warm up and some sprint work before heading over the road to POP Brixton. The urban farm there is used for school groups and adult education classes and we needed to help them pack it down for the winter. The more green fingered started repotting plants and the rest split between sweeping up the greenhouse, spreading woodchip and moving large oil drums with trees in them. This required some roly poly skill but we mastered it in the end and even gave them a good water. With some more fitness outside POP, we headed back to base.
Everyone got to enjoy Victoria's Italian bake off goodies and then we headed to the pub for some sustenance. Lovely stuff!

Excellent Lambeth runners legged it on a nearly 9km round trip to help Streatham Youth and Community Trust
Today we were joined by Wandsworth regular Alyx, who is going to be the new trainer for our first university-based GoodGym at UCL - good luck Alyx!
After a warm up where Katie almost lost the keys to Papa's, we set off in two groups on the long road to Streatham. We were helping out a new task tonight, Streatham Youth and Community Trust. They have a range of sites across Streatham and they all need a good old clear out.
It was a solid 4.4km each way and on arrival, we formed a wonderful human chain to take loads of gubbins out of the attic. We either had to keep , chuck or recycle. There were lots of magazine racks, a shredder, some bottom of door brush things and a FAX MACHINE. It was like being in a time warp. We even sang The Chain by Fleetwood Mac to keep the decade topical.
Once clear, we headed back to base for some stretches and this week's Bake Off goodies - a DELICIOUS pear and chocolate pudding provided by Aislin. You can see by David's face in the photo how much he enjoyed it. TOP WORK LAMBETH!
