Last night in Hounslow had that unmistakable GoodGym energy - a lot of laughs, and a sense that small actions add up to something meaningful.
We headed over to Turnham Green to support the brilliant Friends of Turnham Green, a community group doing big things. This park is a shared green space, a place where people can connect with nature in the city. Keeping it cared for means it stays welcoming, safe and ready for new growth.
The mission? Collecting sticks and branches. Spread across the whole site, the team got to work collecting fallen wood, clearing the ground so it’s ready for planting. It’s one of those deceptively simple tasks that makes a difference — tidier paths, safer footing, and open space for future planting. There’s something very satisfying about that visible before-and-after, and the team absolutely delivered.
With the task complete, it was time to turn the focus to fitness.
Lower body was the theme of the night. We powered through split squats, embraced the burn with mountain legs, and even flirted with the elusive pistol squat. Determined and very impressive efforts all round.
A few well-deserved shoutouts:
There’s another fantastic session coming up this weekend with the wonderful Hope Church, helping to create a garden for people using the food bank. A really special project with real impact — definitely one to get involved in

It was a bumper night in every respect last night—with so much to celebrate across the group. A huge shoutout to everyone who made the trip over to Cluj, racing everything from 10km right up to the marathon—seriously impressive stuff and plenty of great race reports filtering back. Add to that, there was lots of exciting news buzzing around the group, and it really did feel like a special evening from the outset.
We were also delighted to welcome Eleonora to her very first session—fantastic to have you with us! And big news - Eleonora is the brilliant new Area Activator for Elephant and Castle —watch this space for upcoming runs there.
A mighty group of 21 runners and cyclists assembled, ready to do good, and for the first time in months we made our return to Chiswick House. With the sun shining and temperatures firmly in the “is this really April?” zone, all the ingredients were there for a cracking session.
We made our way down to the estate garden, where we met Freya, one of the gardeners, and followed the cart down stacked with dozens of watering cans. We got straight to it, hydrating the new plants and giving everything a much-needed drink in the warm weather.
We then got stuck into digging up stubborn ivy roots and tackling plenty of weeding. Great teamwork all round.
With the task complete, it was onto fitness. Taking full advantage of the dry ground, we powered through a continuous 6-minute core blast. No breaks, no mercy—just solid effort from everyone. Strong work!
Then it was time to head back, easing out the legs with some well-earned stretches and soaking up the last of the evening sun.
Looking ahead, we’ve got a big weekend coming up: Maxime will be leading his very first session on Saturday—heading to Popesfield Allotments this Saturday
And next week, we’ll be teaming up with Friends of Turnham Green for more good deeds in green spaces 💚

It was a unseasonably chilly night in Hounslow last night, and after a day of hail showers, it didn't make for the most inviting conditions for an outdoor group session. But there was a job to be done, and Team GoodGym turned up to do it!
The task was an important one - brightening up Turnham Green and improving its biodiversity. Thanks to the Friends group, there had been a load of cowslip seedlings getting big and strong in Jan's attic, waiting for the moment they could be planted in the wild. With the warmer weather arriving (not much sign of it last night though!), their time had come.
Armed with headtorches, spades and enthusiasm, a hardy team of 12 began planting with speed and efficiency.
It took record time to get them all in the ground, and task owner Jan had this to say:
"The team were great this evening! 145 little cowslips planted in half an hour. Big thank you to everyone!"
Fantastic work everybody, another job that will improve the lives of the local community in the bag.
Next week (we're off to finish the painting job we started at Strand on the green) [https://www.goodgym.org/v3/sessions/finishing-up-the-painting-at-strand-on-the-green-school)

A dark and chilly Wednesday evening, with headtorches at the ready and lots to celebrate – it could only be a GoodGym Hounslow group run! 🎉🏃♀️
Before a single sapling had been wrestled or stake hammered into the ground, there was a roll call full of brilliant achievements. First up, a huge round of applause for Beth, fresh from conquering the Tokyo Marathon and jet lag. What a run! 🌏🏅 Lucy smashed a half marathon at the weekend – clearly the marathon training is going well. And then a massive cheer was for Ariane, who tonight completed an amazing 50 Good Deeds. That’s fifty times showing up, pitching in and making our local area better – a brilliant achievement and very well deserved 👏 Not only that, Jon quietly cruised past the 200 good deeds mark. What a serious amount of good done and a real contribution to the community.
If that wasn’t enough excitement for one evening, we also had a brand new group session location - Baron's Ponds. While some GoodGymers have visited the site before for tasks like planting daffs (and we could see the bright and beautiful results of that hard work tonight), this was the first time we’d descended on it as a full group on a Wednesday group run – and there was plenty to do.
The task list was long. It included clearing an area of willow saplings, hammering stakes firmly into the ground and the small matter of moving a four-metre dead hedge. With so much to do, it was an all-hands-on-deck situation. It didn't help that it was dark, the ground was uneven, and there were plenty of brambles - but none of that slowed the team down. Headtorches flashed, saws were pressed into full use, branches were shifted, and gradually the transformation began to appear.
By the end of our 45-minute burst of effort, the area looked completely different. Mark and Pete, the volunteers who manage the site, told us it would have taken them at least half a day to achieve what the group managed tonight. A very satisfying result. 🙌
This weekend there’s another mission at Baron's Ponds, with plenty to get stuck into if you fancy more muddy fun. And next week we’re either back helping out at Chiswick House or teaming up with Wild Chiswick for more community impact.
There’s no stopping GoodGym Hounslow! 💚🏃♂️

Hounslow Report written by Luis
This week’s task took us back to a very familiar place: the home of the Comboni Sisters in Chiswick. It was a bittersweet visit, as the sisters are preparing to move to Birmingham due to the rising cost of staying in their current property. After many years of helping them with gardening, lifting, sorting and everything in between, this was our final task with them — so we were determined to make it count.
Loft Carpets: The Great Descent We kicked things off in the loft, where a fair collection of carpets awaited their journey downstairs.
Jalal, Ariane and Luis were stationed up top, sending the carpets down one by one — some surprisingly heavy! The rest of the team formed a chain below to carry them safely down the multiple flights of stairs. A great bit of teamwork and a proper GoodGym-style warm-up, whether we wanted it or not!
Once the carpets were sorted, we moved outside for some garden TLC.
Jalal took charge of the lawnmower and gave the grass a much-needed cut. The rest of the team focused on weeding and tidying up the borders.
The garden is fairly large, so although we didn’t manage to finish everything, we made a big difference. With a bit of winter sun breaking through, we hope the sisters can enjoy a brighter, tidier space in their final weeks here.
It felt meaningful — and a little emotional — knowing this was our last visit. The sisters have always welcomed us so warmly, and it’s been a privilege to support them over the years. We wish them all the very best in their new chapter in Birmingham.
Great work tonight, team. A strong turnout and an even stronger show of effort and generosity. Done and indeed dusted!! Exactly what GoodGym is all about.
