Beak Performance: GoodGym Takes on the Big Garden Birdwatch

Saturday 24th January

Written by Richmond runner

Today’s task had us swapping trainers for binoculars as we took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Our mission was simple: keep our eyes peeled, count the birds we spotted, and submit our findings to help track the UK’s bird population.

A few of us met in Marble Hill Park and we perched ourselves in prime viewing spots and soon we spotted a variety of familiar faces – from black crows, parakeets, robins and seagulls – all going about their daily beak-ness.

The task was a nice change of pace: calm, mindful, and a great reminder to slow down and appreciate nature. All observations were logged and submitted to the RSPB, helping them build a clearer picture of how our garden birds are doing. Overall, a very tweet task, well worth flocking to.

It’s a crow-mazing day!

The rain didn’t stop Goodgymers getting out on a Sunday to do birdwatching for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. This was the last day and even though it was raining, some birds were noted: seagulls; cormorants; robins; magpies; jackdaws; parakeets and blue tits. Don’t forget to log them on the RSPB website!

Day 2 of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch was a beautiful day, blue skies and sunshine. Goodgymers have been busy Friday and Saturday spotting birds in their local area.

From Goldfinches, Blue Tits, Robins, Parakeets, Carrion Crows, Jack Daws, White Herrons, Seagulls and Magpies, our areas have a variety of birdlife. And lets not forget the Wood pigeon!

One more day to count more birds, don't forget to submit your count on the RSPB website!
