Lessons in GoodGyming

Wednesday 20th November

Written by Jen Stoneham

Our small but mighty team this evening smashed out our delivery task in impressive time!

Jen and Dave have clearly been to the Judy Knapp School of Flyering - after their tuition from the master herself a couple of weeks ago.

Newest Task Force member Yvonne also got a masterclass in listing tasks whilst joining forces with Katie.

Christmas is coming

Monday 5th December 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

We delivered leaflets for Fratton Community Centre to let people know about the Christmas Fair on Saturday 10th.

3 long roads and 3 short roads were covered with an incredible array of different letterboxes to get to grips with...

Elvis the cockerpoo also joined in one of the leaflet drops and was intrigued by all the different smells on the street!

Free Ice Cream!

Tuesday 28th June 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

An earlier start than first planned, meant that Vicki and I were joined by Beth, Sam and Betsy to clock up some extra steps and deliver some leaflets for the Fratton Fun Day on Sunday.

We did Clive Road first with Betsy putting leaflets through all the low letterboxes and Beth & Vicki starting on the side that seemed to have more houses!

We heard the ice cream van and his techno wild west music doing the rounds of the Fratton roads and when we were half way down Newcombe Road we saw a man who'd bought 3 ice creams... one of which he gave to Betsy - obviously impressed by the amount of enthusiasm she brought to the leaflet drop!

We ran out of leaflets early into Sheffield Road and were back at the start in about 35 minutes.

Team work makes the dream work!

p.s. that was good deed number 400 for me tonight, 100 to go till the next t-shirt!!

A Bit Of A Drip!

Wednesday 20th April 2022

Written by Jen Stoneham

We were pleasantly surprised to see how well the first coat in Room 4 had dried - hopefully tonight's second coat will be the last one needed!

Jo tackled the door frames with a coat of gloss, whilst our high spot coverage was expertly painted by Laura.

Despite being a smaller team than our previous trips to Fratton everyone painted their socks off and we managed to just about finish in time.

Special thanks to Judy for epic wiping up after us and giving the brushes a good scrub.

Room 4 improvement

Wednesday 13th April 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

We had an exciting start to the evening with a visit from Rosie and our newest future member, Phoenix.

We then went inside to tackle painting room 4.

This week we were well prepared with an extra ladder and roller as well as the trusty stirring stick. We got to work and managed to get a good first coat of magnolia on, ready for next week's second coat.

Caption competition for what Lucy was saying or singing in her photo.

Tonight's topics included:

  • good pubs for a Sunday Roast
  • quizzing
  • passports
  • positive points of the chosen paint
  • ladder health and safety
  • is running parkrun doing something for yourself (decision = yes)
  • Rachel being close to 200 good deeds.
  • the collective height (or lack of) of GoodGym members, we need to recruit some tall folk!

Second best

Wednesday 16th March 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Tonight's mission was to give room 6 a second coat of paint after the first coat dried in patches. Hopefully this time the paint has gone on thick enough!

We also attempted a coat of gloss on the skirting which freshened it up a bit but didn't cover the chips!

We also had Alice in supervision mode which meant we got Jen for the high spots as well as Aoife up the ladder later on and Jo's long roller added help.

Maxine is still managing to fit into her GG t-shirt which is very impressive as there are only 9 weeks till our next future GG member is born.

Subjects discussed tonight included CV writing, books, TV series and what the best Disney films are!

Next week we're off to St Faith's for a bit of gardening, litter picking and a cup of tea!
